Leicester to Nottingham: A Chancer’s Guide to Moving North

Home » Leicester to Nottingham: A Chancer’s Guide to Moving North

If you live in Leicester and want to move to Nottingham, I have a few words of advice. First, get ready for a rough commute. Second, don’t forget about benching it. This is by finding other people willing to lend their bench to you during rush hour. Thirdly: if you’re coming from Leicester by train and want to check the weather on your phone before leaving (I recommend doing this), be prepared for shitty service. And finally: be ready for some good beer and music!

The commute: Benching it

Getting from Leicester to Nottingham is a breeze because you can take the train. The trains are great! They’re modern and efficient, and they’ll get you where you need to be in no time at all.

The journey takes about 50 minutes, which isn’t bad at all considering how far apart Leicester and Nottingham are. If this sounds like too long for you though then there’s another option: hitchhiking. Hitchhiking is also really popular here! Just make sure your ride has room for your luggage first. You don’t want anyone getting upset about that kind of thing.

How do I get from Leicester to Nottingham?

Getting from Leicester to Nottingham takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes by train. The cost is around £28 for a return ticket, which puts it in the same price range as London or Manchester.

You can take a bus or a car – driving is best if you’re going with a lot of people. The route takes about 3 hours and costs about £30 for the whole way there and back (including petrol).

Do you know how long it takes to get from Leicester to Nottingham?

If you’re a regular commuter between Leicester and Nottingham, it probably won’t surprise you to hear that the journey takes just over an hour. That’s not bad at all if you ask me. I used to live in Sheffield and the time it took me to get to Manchester was less than two hours. It’s not ideal though when you have work deadlines looming over your head or appointments with friends in both cities.

It’s also important to remember that trains only run once an hour on Sundays. So if this affects you, I suggest taking a car or booking yourself in for a flight instead!

Leicester to Nottingham trains is the stuff of dreams.

It’s a journey that takes 1 hour and 40 minutes, with more than enough time for you to stop for a cup of tea at Grantham station. There are trains every 30 minutes and you can get one every hour on average. So why not take the plunge? You’ll be amazed by how fast it goes!

Use a Bike to Move Around

Now that you’ve got your bike and know how to keep it in good repair, you might be wondering how to get around town. There are a few options here:

Cycling with a bike can be dangerous, especially if you’re not used to riding one. If you want to avoid risking your safety while cycling in Nottingham, then we recommend taking public transport.

You can also rent a bike from anywhere in Leicester and ride it up north all on your own! However, this isn’t recommended for first-timers or anyone who hasn’t ridden one before. Riding an unfamiliar vehicle is a risky business if there’s no one there guiding you through the process. Also, make sure that whoever rents out their bikes takes care of them properly. You don’t want someone else’s old rust bucket falling apart while they’re still using it!

Check the Weather

When you’re deciding what to pack, the weather is a great place to start. You want to pack for the kind of weather you can expect in your new city, so check out its climate before leaving. Will it be cold? What time of year is best?

Once you’ve decided on a move date, made all your preparations, and it’s time to head north. But don’t forget: Now that you’re moving away from Leicester, things will be different up there. Check the weather in Nottingham before leaving Leicester and again when you arrive. If there’s any major difference between the two locations (such as rain), make sure that everything has been packed properly and securely (as well as insured).

Beware of Shops That Charge a Penny To Use Their Restrooms

If you’re moving to Nottingham, beware of shops that charge a penny to use their restrooms.

Some businesses, in certain regions of the country, adopt the practice of tying up their toilets for this reason. Although it may seem harmless enough, one cannot underestimate the hassle of paying for what should be free access. The most common way around this is simply bringing your toilet paper with you.

Another way around having to pay using a shop’s restroom (or “rest room,” as they say here) is by using a hotel bathroom instead. However, many hotels do have restrictions on how often guests can enter them (including “no entrance allowed after 8 pm”).

If this happens while visiting friends over the weekend and they’re willing to let me use theirs instead. Well, I’m sure we’ll figure something out! Another option would be to try out some public restrooms nearby. Although these aren’t always very clean or nice-looking places so I’d recommend asking first before venturing into unknown territory with no backup plan whatsoever.

Leicester and Nottingham is a great place to live

The Beer

You’re looking for a new city, but one that has a lot of similarities to Leicester – so what’s your best bet? Nottingham! And you’d be right, it does have many things in common with the midlands city. However, some key differences make it a fantastic alternative.

Nottingham has many breweries – both large and small – compared to Leicester’s paltry offering, it looks positively world-class. There are also plenty of pubs where you can drink said beers and enjoy their company as well as other people’s conversation about beer and other things such as football or politics.

Best of all though? Some of these pubs are where the breweries themselves are based! So you get to try the amazing beer and also chat with the experts behind them about their process. This is great news for anyone who likes talking about themselves because now they have an audience.

If you’re interested in Castle Rock Brewery, but don’t fancy the idea of moving to Nottingham (or even worse, Leicester), there are a few options that might satisfy your thirst. The Whitby Hotel is located close to Manchester and Leeds. They offer their beers on tap and have a decent selection of guest ales too. If you’re willing to travel further afield, The Hop & Barrel in Hackney offers interesting brews from around the world.

When it comes to food, there’s no shortage of options across their pubs’ menus. There are plenty of curry and steak sandwich options, so whether you like those or other items. There should be something for everyone here! Just make sure that before ordering anything though.

Belvoir Brewery

Ratings: ★ 4.5

Belvoir Brewery is a microbrewery in the heart of the National Forest. It’s also home to their cafe and shop, which serves up great beer and food.

It’s not just about the beer though… you can enjoy live music here too! The brewery itself is open for tours and the shop sells all kinds of merchandise. There’s also a large beer garden here if you want to enjoy some fresh air while drinking your favourite pint!

The building’s history stretches back over 500 years and it has been home to many different tenants. The last brewery here closed in the 1960s, but today you can enjoy a pint of their award-winning beer! If you’re feeling peckish while enjoying your drink then make sure to grab some food from the Belvoir shop too.

Be At One is a cocktail bar and restaurant located in the centre of Nottingham. It has a great selection of cocktails (including their signature martinis), as well as shareable food options.

Be At One looks like the inside of an old-timey ice cream parlour, with bright colours, checkered floors, and vintage signs on every wall. The atmosphere at Be At One is relaxed and welcoming, making it a great place for after-work drinks or to go out on the town with your friends.

At the risk of sounding like a local, Manhattan34 is one of my favourite bars in Nottingham. It’s got a fantastic cocktail menu, a great range of food and drinks and it’s always full of interesting people.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about everything on their menu. I’ve never been disappointed by anything I’ve tried here. From the classic Daiquiri or Negroni to their more adventurous concoctions. These are very good choices if you’re feeling brave).

The Food

Many locals consider Leicester and Nottingham to be the culinary capitals of the East Midlands. If you’re moving to either city, there’s a lot to be said about trying some of their local foods. In Leicester, you should try some curry—it’s incredibly popular here and there are plenty of restaurants that serve it.

But if your stomach is feeling more European, then why not try a pork pie? These savoury tarts use pork, eggs, onion, and herbs; they’re available at many bakeries in town. Or maybe you’d prefer something spicy? Here are some food guides from Leicester to Nottingham:

Oakdale Chippy Bakersfield

Ratings: ★ 5.0

The Oakdale Chippy Bakersfield is a British boozer that serves up traditional pub grub in a friendly atmosphere. If you’re looking for a place to meet up with friends and enjoy some good food, there’s no need to look further than this establishment.

The interior of the pub is decorated with warm wood panelling and traditional English memorabilia. There are framed photos of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who are depicted wearing crowns on their heads.

There’s also an old-fashioned wooden bar counter where customers can stand while waiting for their food order to be ready. This serves as both a functional piece of furniture also adds an aesthetic touch (which means it looks pretty good).

The kitchen area itself has large windows. Diners can see what goes on the back of the kitchen when preparing orders—and yes, it does! On Friday nights they even have live music performances by local bands which add another dimension to your meal experience here at Oakdale Chippy Bakersfield Pub & Restaurant!
